I'm thrilled to see you've added a blog to your web-site. The new "Sure sign of Spring" is beautiful. One of my goals this year is to start doing "plein air" paintings on my own. I still haven't gotten brave enough to as of yet. Maybe seeing your beautiful work will inspire me.
Found your site a while ago through Steve Atkinson's blog, and it's great to see you're blogging now! I'm a still-life painter struggling to teach myself plein air painting, and I admire your work. Thanks for setting the bar so high!
There are times when I find it so hard to be an artist and then I read your comments about forcing yourself to go out and paint buildings, I found it reassuring that you had to struggle also. I have also been struggling with illness and pain in my legs so haven't been painting as much, now I feel like we all have struggles and I know I feel better when I paint, no matter how difficult it is. Thanks!
I am glad I found your site! Beautiful work! I fully agree with your approach to plein air painting. Nature is not always the best designer of composition, I have often brought a painting home thinking it was wonderful, but after looking at a couple days later the problems become obvious. It may have looked great out on site but in the end the painting has to stand on its own merits. There are other painters who believe their plein air studies are sacred and should not be worked on in the studio, but I share your view, there is little to lose by attempting to work out minor problems.
I am taking a trip from San Fransisco to the Oregon Coast this Summer. From a painters point of view, what is the best route to travel, coastal or inland?
