That last raking rays of sun illuminate everything in magical light, turning rock faces into gold and making jeweled facets of water. I painted a small study for this piece on location in Point Lobos State Park, racing to grab color notes before the sun set. I painted this larger piece back in the studio, using that study and memories of a glorious evening.
