I like how you evaluated and thought through how you felt, packed up your gear and dogs headed for the hills, so being in a rut myself at this time, I have not tried this idea, but I do love plein air as well. I think getting back to the basics is excellent advice, and I can see why you enjoy doing pure landscape they are very beautiful paintings both of them.
